Knitting in the News: Cool Things and Places to Knit
Thursday July 2, 2009
It seems like just about every knitting related thing I came across this week made me say, "Oh, that's cool." See if you feel the same way about these beauties:
- Check out this video from UK Ravelry day answering the question "What's the strangest thing you ever knitted?" Answers include chain mail, spats and E. coli.
- Want to participate in some of the fun of the Sock Summit but can't be there? Consider knitting a historic pair of socks for the Sock Museum, which will be on display at the summit as well as showcased online.
- Or you can help celebrate the centenary of the British Poetry Society by knitting up a letter to be included in a knit poem.
- Read this lovely story about the manly art of knitting and how men feel the need to knit for babies, too.
- If you live anywhere near Iowa's Norwegian American museum, don't miss the traveling exhibit Knitting Along the Viking Trail, which opens July 12 with a reception with knitwear designer Elsebeth Lavold, who will also offer four workshops on Viking knits.
- And if you're looking for a place to knit in public this summer, check out the list of Stitch N' Pitch events, or learn how to develop your own at a nearby minor league park.
