Knitting Step by Step

Monday January 12, 2009
Step Stitch is an interesting but easy knitting stitch that involves stacks of knit stitches on a purl background that form steps or cascades up and down the fabric. It's basically just a ribbing stitch that travels across the fabric as you knit it, forming the steps.

The stitch makes a nice fabric that's fun to knit and to look at, and it would be a good choice for just about any kind of project, from sweaters to afghans. Once you've worked the pattern a couple of times you'll remember the way it is supposed to go so you might not even need the instructions after a while.
