Easy Patterns
Wednesday December 31, 2008
While we're on the subject of new knitters and ways to get through that period of newness with your sanity intact, I thought I'd throw out my collection of a dozen of my favorite knitting patterns for beginners.
These go from the dead-simple Garter Stitch scarf to a Stockinette Washcloth, a bag using Fleck Stitch and a hat knit flat to a wrap with simple shaping (and another that's just a ribbed rectangle). It even includes a baby project: a simple Garter Stitch bib that introduces the new knitter to the joys of I-cord.
What projects would you recommend for new knitters? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I think the ponytail hat is adorable and would be simple to knit. I am going to knit it on my knitting machine using 2/24 or 2/17 hi bulk acrylic. I plan on using the basic hat design and instead of gathering at the top I’ll reduce stitches down and add ribbing and hem. My blog is stephaniesyarn.blogspot.com and web site is www.sumi-soft.com/yarn/
I think a great project for a beginner knitter is the raglan percentage sweater; knit in the round from the top down. So easy, and turns out great no matter what sort of yarn used. Plus, since it is easy, it gives the beginner knitter great confidence when they finish it!
