If you've never knit before or are still a new knitter, you might not really know how to get started or the right way to progress in the craft. You can't really knit a full project because you need to practice forming the stitches and be willing to make mistakes on something that isn't costing you a lot in terms of time or materials.

So for me the perfect project for a beginner is a simple knit square. This tutorial takes new knitters through all the things they need and the skills required to make a Garter Stitch sqaure, as well as ideas for how to use the squares and where to go to learn more once the knit stitch has been mastered.

All of you who want to learn to knit in the new year, this is for you!
