Sanquhar Duke Gloves and Hat, knit by user sandrada.

I thought this picture from reader sandrada was the perfect pre-Christmas thing. These are gloves and a hat knit using the Sanquhar Duke pattern from the Scottish Rural Women's Institutes. Sanquhar is a region and a town in southern Scotland that was known for knitting fine gloves and having a thriving weaving trade in the 1700s. Sandrada reports that she used techniques from Anne Feitelson's The Art of Fair Isle Knitting on the project.

The pattern is available here: http://www.swri.org.uk/sales_goods/miscellaneous.html; it’s the Duke pattern.
