Going to the Dogs

I've shared here before the fact that if I ever have a child he or she is going to be subjected to all manner of adorable hats. Since that hasn't happened yet, I'm now subjecting the heads of my friends' children to (in my mind, anyway) adorable hats, starting with this dog hat that will soon be gifted to a lovely 2-year-old I know.

He probably won't like it nearly as much as I do, but I think it's pretty adorable, and it's also great because it's super easy to knit. It's really just a basic Stockinette Stitch hat with a little bit of duplicate stitching for the face and ears that are knit directly onto the hat for a perfectly seamless finish.

This same idea could be taken all sorts of directions, with smaller ears and different colors to represent whatever animal your child loves, or a completely fanciful animal for that matter. It's fun for the knitter and the wearer alike.
