Knitting in the News: A Contest, A Rare Book and Giant Knitting Art
Thursday December 18, 2008
If you'd like the chance to have your knitting shown at the Knitting Guild Association's meeting next year in Portland (as well as a chance at a gift certificate valued up to $1,000 from Yarn Market), check out the details of the group's pattern design contest (PDF). Entries will be accepted in women's classic, women's fashion forward, men's, children's, babies and accessories categories, and will initially be judged from photographs, while the finalists' work will be shown and judged at the TKGA National
Conference/Knit & Crochet Show in Portland in May.
BookFinder's annual list of the most sought-after out-of-print books is out for this year, and just one knitting book made the list. The Principles of Knitting by June Hemmons Hiatt has been on the list for years, but this year fell from number 3 to number 10. Rumor has it that the book is scheduled to be reprinted with a projected publication date of sometime in 2009.
And in our continuing study of cool things to do with yarn (or with things that look like knitting), I bring you the art of Bauke Knottnerus, a Dutch artist who uses giant strands to make knit and non-knit articles. These remind me of the Honey I Shrunk the Kids experience at one of the Disney parks back in the day.
