Gift Idea: DPN WIP Tube

Sunday December 14, 2008
WIP tubeDouble-pointed needle work in progress tube, from Nancy's Knit Knacks.
I wonder if I could have worked a few more acronyms into that headline? No matter, the work in progress tube for projects on double-pointed needles is a great gift for the sock knitter in your life (Manufacturer's site). It's just two heavy cardboard tubes with slits partway down the side. You align all your DPNs (which can be a little tricky), slide them and the work (which can also be tricky) through the slit in first the blue tube and then then red tube.

When this is accomplished you can't see the knitting needles any more, and there's no way your stitches can fall of your needles. Brilliant, right?

Of course you do have to be really careful when inserting and removing your project from the tube so that you don't pull on the needles and thus drop a bunch of stitches (guess how I know). It also seems to be pretty strictly for socks and other projects using light-weight yarn, since I tried to use it on a worsted-weight project and couldn't get it to slide through. Still, for people who knit a lot of socks (particularly those who travel a lot or have kids who like to play with their needles) this is a thoughtful gift they'll get a lot of use out of.

Sorry but it looks just like a giant tampon tube.

wonder if a Smartie Sweetie Tube would work if the top removed and a slit made down the side? Will have fun eating the smarties anyway!
