Knits for the Roller Derby
Saturday August 30, 2008
There are a lot of different kinds of knitters out there, and most knitting books tend to go for as big a potential audience as they can hope to attract in order to sell more books.
Not so with Knockdown Knits: 30 Projects from the Roller Derby Track by Joan of Dark, known off the track as Toni Carr.
This book is unashamedly just for people who participate in derby or know people who do. Looking through this book you'll feel like you're being let into a secret society of women who like shoving other women around -- while wearing roller skates! -- for sport.
Now if you happen to be a derby girl, you're going to love this book, full as it is of patterns just for you. There's a bag to hold a frozen bag of vegetables to use as an ice pack, armbands to add your team numbers to, and plenty of cute additions to your derby uniform or things to wear to the after party.
If you're not a derby player or fan, you probably won't want to buy this book, but give it a look at the bookstore or library for a glimpse into a fun world full of strong and crafty women.

Will definitely check that one out. I have a pretty eclectic library of knitting books so it might be fun to have on the shelf. I may not knit out of all of them, but I love to sit and read them over and over. And I love the idea of the ice pack cover for frozen vegetables!
Soem of us older knitters with bad knees might be interested in that pea bag.
Sounds like fun.
