Check Mate

Today I've got a really simple knitting stitch pattern for you today, Little Checks. Barbara Walker says this stitch may have originated in the knitting of ancient Arabia.
Wherever it came from, it's a classic pattern made of Stockinette Stitch boxes on a field of Reverse Stockinette Stitch. The wrong side shows the opposite, and both sides look great, so this stitch would be ideal for a block in a sampler afghan or even as a scarf pattern that's a little more interesting than a completely basic stitch but still easy enough for new knitters.
