Stripes Made Simple
Tuesday August 12, 2008
Knitting stripes isn't all that difficult, but it can get a little tedious when you're knitting a whole large project with several different colors. Using self-striping yarn is a great way to get around this problem, because it makes stripes for you while you just focus on the project.
Candace Eisner Strick offers good tips for working with striping yarns, as well as 27 projects that use them in different ways, in her book Knit One, Stripe Too.
The book includes a mitered square baby blanket, several striped sweaters and tops, a funky hat shaped with short rows, and plenty of scarves, shawls and wraps using these fun stripey yarns. The book is great for the intermediate or advanced knitter who wants to see how these yarns can be used to their best benefit in projects.
