The Wonders of Tweed
Friday July 25, 2008
I never gave much thought to tweed, either the fabric or the yarn, until I read Nancy J. Thomas' book on the subject. In Tweed: More Than 20 Contemporary Designs to Knit, she provides an in-depth look at the history of tweed as a fabric and a yarn, as well as a bunch of patterns using Takhi Stacy Charles' tweed yarns.
There are many lovely patterns in this book, and its arranged by skill level so even new knitters can find projects to try. More experienced knitters will find plenty of challenges here, too, such as the giant throw covered in leaves and vines or the colorwork throw that's covered with flowers and appliquéd leaves.
There are also patterns for hats, scarves, sweaters and vests, all with a bit of old-timey British Isles charm. If you're looking for a new sweater for the winter, this book just might have something for you.
