How Much of Your Knitting is for Yourself?
Wednesday July 23, 2008
I'm not at all complaining, but I find myself this week busy working on two baby blankets. At the same time, as you know, I'm thinking about Christmas knits, and the sweater I started knitting myself as a Christmas present last year remains undone.
I'm sure I'm not alone in doing a lot of knitting for other people before I do much knitting for myself. It's wonderful that we can share the gifts of our hands with others, but at the same time I wish I for one were a little more selfish with my knitting time.
How about you? Do you happily knit almost exclusively for charity and loved ones without a thought for yourself? Or are you a knitter who loves knitting for family -- as long as your shoulders are covered with a lovely sweater first? Let me know by answering this week's poll.

I always find people’s reactions interesting when they ask, “Who you are making that for?” and you respond, “Me.”
“Oh….really,” they say with a note of surprise in their voice.” It’s as if they think you are being selfish, or maybe it’s envy
I start things for myself, but those are the projects that get put away in favor of the gift projects. I started a sweater for myself right after Christmas and the sleeves are about half done – nothing else. I have knit (crocheted, cross stitched) a number of projects for everyone but myself in the same time span. I figure I will be around to wear whatever I make, but the gift times come and go so quickly, I want to be sure I get the gifts made and given.
