Feathering is a knitting term that refers to making decreases that fall opposite to the slant of the stitches. This makes the decreases really prominent and gives the fabric an interesting texture.

The Feather Pattern takes advantage of this sort of decrease to make a handsome fabric in which the lace holes aren't the star. It's a lovely choice for a border or even as an allover pattern on a wrap or scarf. It also takes on a bit of a scalloped edge, which adds more interest to the fabric.
