Getting Knitty Like Christmas

Friday July 18, 2008
Knit TinselKnit tinsel on my fireplace. (c) Sarah E. White.
Yeah, I know Christmas is a little more than six months away, but I can't resist celebrating almost Christmas in July by sharing a couple of holiday-inspired patterns this week.

This one is for dead-easy knti tinsel that's nothing more than a ginormously long I-cord knit with a flashy eyelash yarn. You could knit this in any color you like, really for any holiday you like (I could totally see this for a birthday celebration, or in black for a Halloween party). With the yarn I used you get a full 12 feet of tinsel from just one skein!

Are you thinking about holiday knitting yet? If so, I'd love to hear what you're working on!

Doing a load of things for Christmas, already,Sarah!! Not only knitting socks but tatting a doily and crocheting a afghan - I tend to do things at a certain time of day or when It strikes my fancy — my fingers needed to tat so that is what I am doing this week - socks are my big knitting project - I’d like to make at least 2 pairs per friend. I am not a great knitter - and a lot of my knitting projects take a long time or/and a very great disappointment. But I strive to learn the skill my mother did so very well! .

i have started a white wool cabled scarf for my daughter-in-law (and ripped it out twice already ~grin~ but i hope i’m on a roll now!)

am planning socks for both my sons and my dad and a hooded-scarf-thingy that i just found a pattern for my mom, which i hope will be wonderfully warm when we’re walking dogs together in january in vermont!

sometimes i plan more christmas gifts than i actually finish, but it’s all good … the planning is half the fun, and if i don’t finish by christmas, the gifts are still nice in january. knitting is my HOBBY, so i try not to get stressed about it! :-)

I started planning in January~ I strive to make as many Christmas presents as possible and make them personal and usable. We all hate getting something we’ll never use!
