Like Eyelets through the Hourglass

It's a little difficult to see the eyelets in the knitting stitch pattern known as Hourglass Eyelets, but even so the pattern is a looker.

This pattern is relatively easy (just two rows of the eight-row repeat are in any way complicated), and it's full of great texture. To me, this pattern would be perfect on a sweater or even as a pattern for an afghan (though the back side of the fabric is not that interesting).

It's one of those patterns you just want to keep knitting because it's fun to see the hourglass, almost cable-like structures appear in the fabric.

I think it would make attractive socks & it looks like it would be easy to adapt the pattern to knitting in the round.
