Do You Have a Project on the Needles?
Thursday July 3, 2008
I get the feeling that people don't knit as much in the summer as they might during other times of year. I know I'm finding myself gravitating toward smaller projects (which is bad considering I have two baby blankets I need to knit ASAP) so this week I'm wondering if you've given the needles a summer vacation.
When you answer this poll, think more about projects you're currently working on rather than those UFOs lurking in your closet. Either way, I've still got too many projects to count.

I’m working on sleeves for my first sweater. I hope to have it finished by fall but I’m so slow! When it’s hot like this I have very little interest in knitting.
I opened up a yarn store in April with a friend and we knit “custom-made” for our customers in that regard I always have something on the needles. Currently I’m working on a sleeveless shell (page 18), using an Ella Rae Bamboo/Silk yarn in summer green. The pattern is from the premier issue of Verena, the German knitting magazine who made its American début with its summer issue in May. When I’m done with it, my next project is already waiting… a start afghan for a baby. This project is just for fun and I have all intentions of entering the start blanket into the Los Angeles County Fair for the professional division. The start blanket can be seen on page 84 in the new issue of Knitter’s (knittinguniverse.com).
Knitting a toy for my new grandchild. I just love to do toys, now I have a perfect excuse
please remember that some of us lucky ones live where it is warm year round and just keep on knitting no matter what the date!
knitting bed covers for a friend moving into a new house are on 2 needles presently and am about to start a circular shawl.
I only have two knitting projects at present. Of course, if you ask how many total fiber projects, that’s a totally different story. I’m spinning yarn for a shawl; working on a peyote stitch and needlepoint amulet bag; a loomed beading, silk needlepoint, and beaded needlepoint (all three) evening bag; doing the practice pieces for the bobbin lace classes I’m taking; and some tatting. I think that’s all.
I always have a few projects going. I keep them organized in big ziplock bags with the pattern, needles (if I have them to spare) and yarn (so I don’t use it for other projects). I have an easy project or two for knitting while chatting with friends or on the bus. I keep my complicated lace, sweater, and sock projects for at home to knit during quiet times with movies or music.
Knitting sweater for Christmas presant, with 4 to go yet, also an afghan, crochet, almost finished, many projects waiting. When ever I sit, I pick up my needles, even in early morning with coffee and morning news!On road trips, etc all year round
I have two projects currently on needles. I’m working on the Estonian Garden Wrap for a friend and I have socks on the needles for my husband. I already have three more projects in the planning stages for when I finish one of the two projects on needles.
I have a baby afghan (almost done), two different pairs of mittens, two big afghans that will wait until cooler weather to finish, socks for my son in the Army (yarn enough for 6 or 8 pair of warm wool ones), and more projects than I will ever have time for that aren’t on needles yet. Eventually everything will get finished. I have yarn for dishcloths and scarves which make great carry-along projects.
