Knitting in Threes

Trinity Stitch is a really fun textured pattern that makes little bumps of three stitches across your knitting fabric. To me they look a bit like berries, and the stitch is also known as Cluster Stitch or Bramble Stitch for this reason.

Once you get the hang of knitting and purling in the same stitch (which isn't really too difficult), this pattern comes along quite quickly. It produces a beautiful fabric that would be lovely on a sweater or vest. Though the back isn't interesting, it's not ugly, either. I've always wanted to knit a prayer shawl using Trinity Stitch -- maybe someday I actually will!

my difficulty is knitting & purling into the same stitch. I try it, and it looks like I am doing it right, but then I end up with too many stitches on the needle that I find impossible to workl with. What am I doing wrong? Do you have a tutorial?
