The Eyelets Have It
Sunday June 1, 2008
I really like this week's stitch of the week, Cloverleaf Eyelet. It's a really easy but cute pattern that you could use instead of plain old Stockinette on just about everything, from a cute little summer sweater to the bottom of a little girl's dress.
The little clover-shaped eyelets are a great way to get practice with two basic decreasing techniques, knit two together and slip, slip, knit. If you've been wary of trying a shaped knitting pattern because you don't feel comfortable with these maneuvers, working something in this stitch (even a swatch or a washcloth) will get you over that fear quickly.

I have designed an afghan based on this stitch and the “Leaves of Grass” pattern I found on another website. It consists of 9 squares 18″ square (63 stiches and 6 repeats of the pattern)The Leaves of Grass pattern works on 11 stitches, so 63 stitches accomodates both patterns and gives me a 4 stich border on each side. I am a beginner, so I’m finding it challenging, but it looks great! I call it “sunset on the meadow afghan”
