Finish or Frog?
Monday May 26, 2008
During a recent perusal of some knitting websites, I came across a link at Knitting Psychos called "Finish or Frog 2008." On that page, there's a list of 19 projects, some of which are marked out with the word "finished" next to them in upper case letters, some with the word "frogged" and some are still on the needles.
This got me thinking about my own backlog of unfinished projects. There are projects I started, got far enough into so I could post a pattern, and then cast aside. There are others I've started with the hope of having a pattern to share, but for whatever reason they remain unfinished.
There are "just for me" projects from patterns not of my own design that have fallen to the wayside for one reason or another. And there are projects I know I'm never going to finish, no matter how long they sit and taunt me on the needles.
There are even projects that are technically done in terms of being off the needles, but still aren't in any usable state.
In a quick look around my office and listing projects from memory, I came up with 14 unfinished objects that I started before January 1. Adding projects from this year ups the total to 19. It seems like there should be more, probably because the list of things I think I should be knitting is longer than that.
I love summer projects, so I think I'm going to set my sights this summer on trying to finish (or frog) as many of these projects as I can between now and Labor Day (while at the same time working up new projects for y'all and not leaving too many of those lingering too long on the needles.
And I'd love for some of you to join me. I've started a thread in the forum called Finish or Frog-along, where other people who are interested in this experiment can say so and maybe even post the list of unfinished objects they're trying to tackle. What do you say? Who's up for finishing some projects?

I can’t bear the thought of frogging! I’ve got a felted bag that’s actually almost done except that I needed help with the I-cord. The friend who is helping me had a family emergency and is still out of town. I don’t dare do anything without her.
I thought I was the only one with unfinished projects! I have around 3 that I have started and 3 with the yarn already purchased waiting for me to start! Sometimes it drives me nuts when I do this because I hate to leave something undone at my place of work.
Sally, I have 3 unfinished projects in my knitting bag! Then there’s the closet, under the bed, and totes on the sunporch. I start things for the holidays, don’t finish, then switch to something new because who wants to work on pumpkins in January?! Or I see something cool, start, and get interrupted because there’s a birthday or wedding gift that has to be made. I’m terrible about returning to old things. Sometimes I get a new bag because I can’t face what’s in the bottom of the old one. I quilt and crochet, too, and the situation is the same there. School will be out in two more weeks. Maybe this can be the summer I take control of my projects. Wish me luck!
I was married to my first husband when I really started knitting full strength. He did not want to see so many projects around the living room and house. I only worked 1 or 2 projects at a time. I am now married for a second time and I bought felt bags to put the whole project in (yarn, pattern, needles). I have kept my work in progress prjects down to 2 or 3.
I had ankle surgery last February and was confined to bed for 10 weeks. I finished a boat load of projects. Some I don’t remember starting! One I didn’t have the pattern any more, but a friend helped me get it back on track. What a great feeling to only have three sweaters that just need buttons put on!
i love knitting, and I too have a few projects started at present I am knitting a rug, and scarves and hats, I only knit in the winter months, as in Australia I find it too hot to knit in the summer.
So I hope you get all your projects finished, and enjoy knitting, I do find it relaxing.

I have several (between 5 and 10 I think) unfinished projects hanging around.) Two of them I’m working on daily and a couple need seaming up and I cord to be finished and there’s on EZ BAby Suprise that’s waiting for the next baby so I know which side to put buttons on. Does that one count?
Well , I’ll hafta say I beleive I have ya’ll beat. I have about 10 projects for each thing I do ie.knit, crochet weave, sew ,wood, stained glass, painting, and garden for a sample. My 2 problems are I get out of the mood or I don’t have space for everything. I worked for a book Co. that handled craft books! And they threw away alot of books! So thinking I would do some thing with them of course I brought them home. So now I have no room to work. Perhapse if I finished something it would give me more room. Ya think
I’m so relieved to know there are others out there with several (many, too many) unfinished projects. so thanks to all for helping to relieve some of the guilt. I am aiming for a Guinness record though. I have a beautiful Norwegian ski sweater that I started (I was very young!) in 1955! This may be the year to finish it.
