Knitting and "Reading"
Thursday May 15, 2008
Stitch'N Bitch audiobook, (c) Knitting Out Loud.A great confluence of knitting and reading happens with Knitting Out Loud, a knitting audiobook publishing company based in Maine.
The company has about a half dozen audiobooks, ranging from Stitch'N Bitch to No Idle Hands: The Social History of American Knitting. While the audio versions of these books don't contain any patterns and all are abridged, they're still a lot of fun to listen to while knitting or doing anything else, for that matter.
You just might even pick up a new technique or a new respect for the craft and an understanding of the amazing history and knitters who came before us.

I have read of people knitting or even tatting while reading, but, for the life of me, I don’t see how! I do listen to my I-Pod, radio, or audio books in various formats, though. I don’t like to knit and watch movies, unless the movie is one I know pretty much by heart. (I don’t watch T.V.) any longer. The knitting books intrigue me but knitting is such a visual artform- they might be interesting to listen to - I listen to the knit picks pod cast while knitting.
If my wife had the audio version of Stich ‘n’ Bitch instead of the printed version, I doubt she would have managed to learn the techniques. The diagrams and images were so important that I wonder what value an audio version could provide.
