Do You Subscribe to Knitting Magazines?
Wednesday October 3, 2007
I've become a bit of a knitting magazine junkie. I love to discover new magazines and subscribe to as many of them as I can. I may never make any of the items I see in them, but they are a constant (or at least quarterly) source of inspiration and education about different techniques and yarns.
This week I'm wondering how you feel about knitting magazines. Do you have a personal favorite? Or would you rather get patterns from books and websites? Let us know by answering this week's poll, and be sure to share your favorite magazine, if you have one, in the comments.

I subscribe to knit.1 magazine. I like it because it has lots of smaller, quick to knit projects, which tend to be my favorites.
My absolute favorite knitting magazine is Creative Knitting. They have easy to difficult patterns and each month teach a new technique or stitch. My one girl friend had a subscription and she let me look at hers but she wouldn’t share so I just had to subscribe myself.
I buy occasionally, but usually only after reading a good review on-line or flipping through them at a bookstore or knitting shop.
I subscribe to Knit 1 but I buy the magazines too. I find them at Thrift Stores too. I am amazed at how many things in the magazines are actually reruns from 20 or more years ago.
I subscribe to Creative Knitting. I also subscribe to the Crochet! magazine. I liked both enough for the consistancy of projects that interest me and the information inside. I’ll occasionally pick up another magazine to buy, but I’m putting myself on restriction since I’m not keeping up with all the projects I want to do.
I love Interweave Knits, positively the best. Also Knitters of which I have every issue since 1985! Vogue Knitting too. Knit1, KnitIt and Creative Knitting and Knit N Style are also good.
I subscribe to Ceative Knitting which has many patterns in plus 2 size, which I need. I’m looking for a simple project to knit for xmas for 4 grandkids and 4 lady friends. Hope I can find some special ones soon.
My favorite was Knit It - but I have not seen a recent issue, and am afraid it has stopped being published. Does anyone know the answer to this?
Creative Knitting is also good.
I am buying the instalment series The Art of Knitting which is teaching (or re-teaching) me how to knit and has inspiring, creative patterns, etc in it. It is from the UK and is sold through a UK based publishing network I think (different from US networks)
I subscribe to creative knitting and I love so many of the projects. I feel like I have to read it cover to cover on the day it hits my mailbox. I just began subscribing to Crochet! magazine too. Haven’t gotten my first issue of that one though. I also pick up Knit1 or Knit’nStyle once in a while but I like Creative Knitting best. I think it has the most wide ranging bases of projects.
Mary,
That’s a good question. I did a little searching online and can only find mention of it on Lion Brand’s website, not on Better Homes and Gardens, which published it.
It could be it’s gone, or that it’s just so irregularly published it doesn’t have a website of its own.
Why is, “knit.1 magazine” not available online? their links haven’t worked for some time. I can’t find them anywhere and wondered if they still exist! Thanks for any information.
Hey, if you’re a knitting magazine junky, I’ve got some good news. A popular European knitting magazine is debuting in North America next month. It should be on the news stands and in knitting shops by the middle of May. It’s called Verena Knitting. You can check them out on their website at www.verenaknitting.com It’s pretty cool looking!
I subscibe to creative knitting. I love it. I also pick up one or two here and there when I’m out and about. I would also like help I lost an issue that I have been knitting a hoodie from, I think it was november 2007. mother and daughter hoodies. Can anyone help me find a back issue so I can finish my hoodie. thanks
I subscribe to Simply Knitting and Knit N Style magazines. I love them both! I also buy Vogue Knitting, Knit 1, Knitscene, Interweave Knits, etc. when they have at least 2 patterns I think I would knit. I’m a total junkie!
Have you seen the new magazine that is online as well as in print? Check it out, www.verenaknitting.com. I like that I’ll be able to pick and choose what I want and not have to store a whole magazine
