Woven Stitch Knitting Stitch Pattern This week's stitch is woven stitch, an easy and versatile stitch pattern that can be made in just about any size you want. It involves squares of knits and purls worked the same number of rows as you have stitches in each square.

So if for example you wanted to make a 5X5 woven pattern, you'd work over multiples of five with each square being five stitches wide and five rows tall. Alternating between knit and purl squares give the fabric a lot of texture and a woven checkerboard look.

To see the woven stitch in action, check out the 4X4 Red Woven Scarf.

I’ve made several afghans with this stitch for the grandkids. It looks especially nice using varigated yarns or using two strands of different colors. Also very simple.
