Warmth without Constraints

Saturday December 30, 2006
Fingerless Gloves I have had the misfortune throughout my career of working in places that are incredibly cold. I started out in journalism, and every newsroom I've ever inhabited was chilly. Now I work in a drafty old house that's either freezing or steaming.

I don't really mind the cold, though; it gives me a good excuse to knit lots of things to keep me warm. One of my favorites: fingerless gloves.

Fingerless gloves are basically long tubes that slip over the hands and arms. They can be made strictly as armwarmers or cover the palms and thumb. My version has a simple thumb built on and completely covers the palm, as well as about half of the upper arm.

This project is knit in fat merino wool, making the gloves warm, durable and non-itching. This super-bulky yarn makes this project a breeze. You could easily finish both gloves in an afternoon and enjoy them for the rest of the season.

I love the idea of these! I have made several fingerless gloves/wrist warmers. These look very simple to make. I’m looking forward to trying this pattern!
