Knit for Charity
Friday October 20, 2006
The holiday gift-giving season is almost upon us, and if you haven't started your gift knitting projects already I hope you're planning easy things! Knits make wonderful gifts from the heart and hands that everyone can cherish.
While you're thinking of family and friends you'd like to make knitted items for, might I also suggest you consider doing some knitting for strangers? There are many, many charities that accept hand-knitted items to give to sick children, soldiers, cancer patients, homeless people, and many others who could use a little bit of warmth and comfort.
For a small list of some of the best knitting charities out there, click here. Not only are these charities themselves wonderful, they might give you some ideas of how you can give a little holiday cheer in your own hometown.
What a great holiday party you could have if, instead of buying presents for everyone, you got together and knit simple scarves and took them to the local homeless shelter or made blocks for a blanket for a sick child. Talk about a happy holiday!

I have done this for years. My older relatives dont need another afgan. I instead work on projects all year long then pick a charity & donate the items in my relatives name & give them a card that says, ” In the spirit of the holiday season. A hand made gift has been donated to (Charity) in your name.
That’s wonderful, Tami. I’m sure your relatives appreciate the gesture and not having to store another knitted item that they might not even use.
I love to knit, but I was starting to wonder about what to do with the stuff I make. My mom has opened a craft booth, but I like the idea of donating items to a charity and then giving the card to the receiver. Great idea! Thanks!
hi i tried your hint but i keep returning to this page. i would really like some double knit patterns. thank you for responding but i still need your help.
I think its an excellent idea. Although I haven’t been knitting very long, I’d like to get into it more and donate them to the ones who really could use them.
